Last year on Holy Tursday, my grandaughter was stepping into Triduum and her Confirmation as a Catholic. She and the other catacumens were to read from scripture as part of of the Tennenbrea service. Jazmine felt a good deal of anxiety at having to go to the microphone and read in front of the congregation – she practiced her piece with great dedication. When she walked to the microphone – my eyes welled with tears for as she took a breathe and spoke, I heard a new voice – I saw a flash of the woman my granddaughter was becoming – she was perfect, poised, graceful – she had gravitas. I couldn’t breathe… She finished her piece and took er place beside me and took my hand. She whispered to me, ” Why are you crying, Nana?”” I am crying because, you are so so beautiful, “I whispered to her.” She smiled and wiped the tears from my cheeks.

As we departed church , ” the leader of the RCIA program came up to me saying – ” Oh my God!, Jazmine was amazing- so mature.” We smiled – and I was so pleased that someone else who loved her had seen it too , had seen that glimpse of my Granddaughter’s future.
