One of the sad developments in “new” Oakland is the almost complete elimination of the community bulletin board. Over the years in the Bay Area about 25 – 50 % of my income came to me because someone found my flyer or card on a bulletin board in oakland or berkeley .
The new folks think the boards are messy.
They don’t wish to have to maintain them.
They don’t feel that they add any ambiance …
Guess that depends on what you see as ambiance… is my mind the open low cost sharing of information and business building adds a great deal of ambiance to a community.
Today I mourn the loss of our amazing community bulletin boards and the life that sprung up around them .
