To whom it may concern,

I offer this letter to state my intention to sit on the council of the Alameda County Green Party.

Although I have only recently changed my registration to the Green party. I have been involved with the Oakland greens for over two years. My involvement began during the last mayoral election – and grew with my acquaintanceship with Don Macleay and his election bid during this time. I have been involved as a community activist and voter all my life , a registered democrat from the age of 18 and an Independent from appox age 30 , until the second Bush election, when I returned to the Democratic Party.

I am a mother and grandmother and resident of Oakland for 24 years. I love this city and have always grieved the reality of the chronic misgovernance of Oakland – and how this consistently threatens to render this city an unsafe and unappealing place to raise children.

I am a holistic health provider and community midwife. I am focused on serving in any way that creates not only the possibility of financial propensity for the citizens of Oakland – but emotional, spiritual, and psychological prosperity as well. Healthy and happy adults results in a greater possibility for safety and the flowering wellbeing of children.

I have since last year, been deeply involved with the Occupy Movement in Oakland and in that capacity have been the founder of two committees, and sit on 3 others. I am one of the founders of Occupy Oakland Children’s Village, the area for children’s and families that existed as part of the Oakland encampment. Occupy Oakland was the first of our national encampments that had a program or space for families to come and find out about the movement and into which children had as safe a space that could be provided in the face of the illegal and criminal policies of the Oakland Police Department.

I would like to assist the Alameda Greens in any way possible. My focus however is in educating and welcoming people of color, women and younger voters in the Greens as a whole and the Oakland Greens in particular. I would even like to explore how children can be brought into knowledge and understanding of their government, how it works, and how they may participate in it via a Green Party perspective.

I would like to do what I can to reach out to those who are tempted to check out of the electoral process altogether and prevent to loss of the energy of such individuals – not to mention to increase the number of people actively engaged alternative parties, increasing choices and possibilities for all citizens, and breaking the head lock of despair presented to us by our two party government.

I thank you for reading this letter and considering me for service.

I look forward to working with you for the betterment of our City, County, and world.

Sincerely,

Lynette Elaine Morgan Becknell, DD, Cht., LC
