Dear
Most Rev. George H. Niederauer

Hello Father, I am writing to humbly make a request of you and the Diocese of San Francisco.

First allow me to introduce myself. I am a Catholic and resident of Oakland. I am member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and have been one since my move to the Bay Area over 20 years ago now.

I am a mother, grandmother and faithful Catholic.

I am also a member of the Occupy Movement in Oakland – since the beginning of its encampment last fall, and one of the founders of the children’s village and member of the parents and allies committee of occupy Oakland as well as the Non Violent Caucus and several other committees.

I am writing to ask that your diocese please find a way to cooperate with Occupy San Francisco and its recent occupation of one of the buildings under your stewardship.

It is my understanding that this building has been empty for quite some time and the purpose of the acquiring of the building was to highlight the inherent sin in this – that in a city and country which has such a high degree of homelessness and need – that empty buildings stand while wile there are people who have no place to rest their head.

it is my belief that if our Savior were alive with us today – that he would support this. they he would count himself as one of the 99 per cent and pray for the conversion of the 1 per cent and their abuse of the resources of this country and this world.

I know that my Church cares about the poor – and I pray that the Catholic Church in San Francisco places itself on the righteous side of history and allows the presence of the Occupy Movement as they seek to address the needs of the San Francisco/Bay Area community.

I am hopeful and prayerful that your office can meet with them, and work out a solution which would respect your building as well as respect this cry from God’s people for equity and justice in all aspect of American life.

I thank you in advance for your consideration of my request.

I pray that it has touched your heart.

I remain, your respectful and loving daughter in Christ.
