There is a great deal of cheering going on that Bill Cosby has had his honorary degree taken from him .
I am a survivor of sexual emotional and physical abuse, and I don’t cheer this . I cheer the carrying forth of Justice , which means that this man was tried and found guilty of these crimes and made to give restitution to the victims .
Justice would have been for these women to have been believed when their wounds occurred , for them to have been validated , if proved true .
Now society wants to wash their hands of the matter and make a big public show of rejecting this man.
I am not fooled for a minute to think that an academic institution gives a rats ass about women other than to collect their frees .
The law exists , not to protect the guilty , but to shield the innocent.
And one has a constitutional right to due process , and a day in court , before losing titles and possessions.
This doesn’t just apply to “nice ” people.
Cheering this ultimately rewards the further erosion of the so called system ..,
And until we build something better – one never knows when one might need to call upon those laws to safe guard ones own life.
Have a trial ! Find him guilty – or be still .
And ,no matter what ,protect and provide healing services to the victims.. What does taking a degree from this man do to improve the quality of their lives ?
It just makes good press for the college …
I am not cheering.
